Nelumbo lutea is native to the United States. Luminescent yellow flowers stand high above round blue-green leaves. Lotus leaves are circular with the leaf stalk in the middle, and no cut nor indentation like water lily leaves. 

Other species of Lotus are found around the world. It is the natual flower of India, has been found depicted in 4,000-year old Egyptian art, and is revered as sacred in China.
